Foyer of
Enchantment
Pasadena Showcase House
A quiet surface
for a grand arrival.
For the 2024 Pasadena Showcase House, The Pink Guy was asked to support the star of the entry: a custom mural by Hattas Studios within designer Rachel Scheff’s richly imagined foyer. Our role was to transform the surrounding walls with a soft, layered French wash that would frame the artwork without competing with it.
Translucent washes created gentle, clouded movement—enough depth to feel intentional, yet quiet enough to let the mural, staircase and historic detailing lead the room.

The finish story
Movement without
competing with the art.
The foyer needed enough visual presence to hold its scale while remaining restrained beside the custom mural and the manor’s original walnut, leaded glass and carved architectural details.
Our hand-applied French wash created depth through translucent color rather than opacity. From a distance, it reads as atmosphere. Up close, it retains the evidence of the brush and the subtle variations that make the wall feel alive.
The result ties the staircase, mural and surrounding architecture together, turning the foyer into a true arrival moment rather than a pass-through space.
